having studied at oxford and taught english in japan, maura has traveled extensively throughout asia, europe and north and south america. she draws inspiration from her travels and loves depicting scenes foreign and familiar with a palette knife which lends texture and looseness to her work. she begins her paintings on a red ground, then adds color in a pattern of darks and lights, often leaving some red peeking through so viewers can complete the paintings with their own eyes. |
